MAKITA BRUSHLESS FIRST ON JOBSITES AND IN PRESS

Makita 18V LXT Brushless Motor tools frequently rank "first" in side-by-side evaluations by key press

The 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 3-Speed Impact Driver (LXDT01).

Makita was first with brushless tools for assembly in 2003. Then Makita was first with a brushless impact driver for contractors in 2009. Based on recent published reviews, Makita LXT Brushless is also “first” in the eyes of key press.  Makita LXT Brushless Motor Technology is consistently recognized in side-by-side reviews for longer run time, increased power and speed, longer tool life, and the fast-charging 18V Lithium-Ion battery.

Tools of the Trade (Spring 2012)
Each spring, Tools of the Trade Magazine recognizes the very best power tools wtih their annual Editors' Choice Award.  The TOTT editors look for tools that "make it possible for tradespeople to do their jobs better, faster, or more easily."  In their Spring 2012 issue, they recognized the 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 3-Speed Impact Driver (LXDT01). They liked the compact size and the range of benefits that the Makita LXT Brushless Motor delivers including longer run time, and increased power and speed.

Tools of the Trade (Fall 2011)
Tools of the Trade Magazine rounded up eighteen 18-volt lithium-ion cordless impact drivers, and gave them to a contractor in Waldwick, NJ, to test them out.  In the end, the Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Motor 3-Speed Impact Driver (LXDT01) came out on top as their "Overall Favorite." The reviewer liked the LXDT01's combination of power, run time, compact size, and ergonomics. He also noted that the Makita motor is smaller, more efficient, and more durable because there are no brushes or commutator to wear out.

This Old House (August 2011)
This Old House Magazine rounded up five selectable-speed impact drivers and gave them to a timber frame contractor in New Hampshire to test them out. In their August issue, they told their nearly 1-million readers the result: The Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Motor 3-Speed Impact Driver (BTD144) ranked best, calling it “The best mix of performance and features.”  Go here to read the This Old House review.

Popular Mechanics (June 2010)
Popular Mechanics Magazine selected nine cordless impact drives and put them to the test. When the dust settled, one tool stood out as "Best Overall": the Makita BTD144. Popular Mechanics liked the Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Motor 3-Speed Impact Driver for its potent combination of small size, less weight, and powerful driving performance. They also liked the BTD144’s three speed settings, and the big performance numbers put up in their performance testing: 128 lag bolts driven in a single charge. Journal of Light Construction (November 2009)
JLC Magazine picked up three 18 volt impact drivers (Bosch 25618-02, Milwaukee 2650-20, Makita BTD144) and gave them to a remodeler in Denver to compare a variety of specs and features. He tested run-time by driving ¼” x 4” lags into a pressure-treated 4x4 without drilling pilot holes, and Makita outlasted them all. The tester even froze each battery in a chunk of ice, and the Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion battery performed best under the extreme-cold conditions. In the end, the Makita BTD144 was named "Best of the Three."  Go here to read the JLC review.

In their spring 2012 issue, Tools of the Trade recognized the LXDT01 with their annual Editors' Choice Award.

Chris Kennel's review for JLC included freezing each tool's battery in ice, then running the tool and battery to gauge performance. The Makita BTD144 and 18V Lithium-Ion battery (BL1830) won this punishing test.

The 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 3-Speed Impact Driver (LXDT01) was picked "Overall Favorite" in a field of EIGHTEEN cordless impact drivers tested by Tools of the Trade Magazine.
