Makita 10" Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw (model LS1016L).
Family Handyman Magazine lined-up eight 10" sliding compound miter saws and put them through a series of test cuts ranging from a compound angle on a 2x8 to simple miters on oak casing. In the end, the Makita 10" Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw (LS1016L) was named Best.
The FH editors liked Makita's direct drive motor over belt-drive models (it was the only direct-drive in the test). They also liked the two pairs of rails for a smaller footprint and greater rigidity for lasting accuracy, and even remarked on the quality of the stock 60T blade. In the end, they called it "an excellent saw" and named it their Editors' Choice.
The award is the latest in a growing list of winning reviews for the LS1016L from top press including American Woodworker, Fine Homebuilding, Tools of the Trade, and Wood.
Capacity and Accuracy
The Makita LS1016L delivers best-in-class capacity and accuracy. The 6 linear ball bearings and 4 steel rails deliver smooth, solid, dead-on accurate cuts. The innovative direct drive gearbox and guard system is engineered for increased vertical cutting capacity, with 6-5/8" crown cutting capacity (vertically nested) and 4-3/4" baseboard cutting capacity. The direct drive also delivers more power than a belt drive motor.
