MAKITA AND BRIAN DEEGAN SET FOR 2012 GLOBAL RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP

La Mirada, Ca – Makita Industrial Power Tools and Brian Deegan have extended their long time partnership to include the 2012 Global Rallycross Championship. The high-octane world of Global Rallycross, which Brian Deegan has described as “motocross – with a roll cage,” will bring its unique style of racing to Charlotte Motor Speedway as the kick-off to the 2012 season in the form of a racing double-header during the Coca-Cola 600 race weekend. This made-in-the USA take on the established European sport of rallycross pits production-based, small cars against each other for door-to-door racing featuring dirt, asphalt, and a 70′ gap jump.

Following the NASCAR Nationwide Series Race on May 26, “The General” Brian Deegan who is an action sports icon along with fellow action sports stars Travis Pastrana, Tanner Foust, and Dave Mirra among others, will start the 2012 Global Rallycross season off on a custom-built, three-quarter-mile Rallycross course, which will be constructed along the frontstretch and pit road of the famed 1.5 mile superspeedway.

Deegan is no stranger to Rallycross as he recently won the Rallycross event at the 2011 Summer X-Games and brought home yet another X games Gold Medal, his thirteenth X-Games medal.   “Kicking off the 2012 season at Charlotte Motor Speedway is going to be cool,” Deegan said. “I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of my Rockstar Makita Ford Fiesta and show the fans what these cars can do. Every jump and every corner, you’re driving on the edge. You have to push your car to the limit every race in order to come out on top. It’s nerve-wracking for the drivers, but that makes for some of the most exciting racing a fan could imagine and it’s great to have a sponsor like Makita backing me up.”

Makita has been a partner with Brian Deegan since 2008 in Short Course Off-Road Racing and is proud to extend the partnership into Deegan’s Rallycross efforts. “Makita has been behind Brian for a few years now and we’re excited to compete for another championship with him. Brian has the heart of a champion and is a relentless competitor. He never quits and always seems to come out on top which makes him a perfect complement to Makita’s best-in-class power tools,” said Brent Withey, Makita’s Director of Marketing.

2012 marks the third year of professional rallycross competition in the United States. The championship expands nationwide, with key races held as companion events with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, IZOD IndyCar Series, and of course the 2012 Summer X-Games exposing the series to more than 600,000 live fans over the season and will be televised on ESPN 2.
The 2012 Global Rallycross Championship season will consist of 6 events:
  • May 26 Charlotte Motor Speedway
  • June 9 Texas Motor Speedway
  • June 30-July 1 X Games Los Angeles
  • July 14 New Hampshire Motor Speedway
  • Sept 1 TBA
  • Sept 29 Las Vegas Motor Speedway
All of the action kicks-off this weekend. Tune in to ESPN 2 on Saturday at 8pm Eastern time to watch Brian Deegan take on some of the world’s top action sports stars behind the wheel of his Rockstar Makita Ford Fiesta.
