Darrin Mees made a return to the podium in Sunday’s Semi-Pro Super Stock final as the team and series made an inaugural stop a the ultra-modern Elko Speedway just outside of Minneapolis.
Mees who is in a heated battle for third place in AMSOIL Champioship Snocross Series point chase, just missed getting on the stage Saturday as well, when he finished fourth in day one competition.
Pro rider Robbie Malinoski was at the front of the pack throughout qualifying in both the Pro Super Stock and AMSOIL Pro Open classes. Malinoski was running in the top five of the Super Stock final, when he was landed on by another competitor, damaging the sled to a point that he could not continue.
In the AMSOIL Pro Open final, Malinoski was attempting a pass for the third position when the resulting contact knocked him of the sled, forcing him to lose several positions.
The first time event brought out a great crowd at a venue that shows promise to only get bigger and better in future years.
