Robbie Malinoski celebrates his first podium finish of the season
For most professional racers, a season full of top five finishes is a mark of achievement. For Robbie Malinoski a steady string of fourth place finishes has meant nothing but frustration. That all came to an end Saturday night as Robbie- Bobby used great starts to propel his Ski-Doo XR-S racer to top qualifying finishes and a third place in the AMSOIL Pro Open final.
Round three was held at Rio Tinto Stadium, home of MLS Champions, Salt Lake Real, and features one of the finest settings and most enthusiastic crowds on the tour. The stop is unique in that it is a single-day event with both professional classes competing in a short amount of time. Although this means non-stop action and stress for mechanics and riders, the format seemed to fit Malinoski’s game day mentality as he was among the fastest riders in the qualifying rounds and backed up his Pro Open podium with a 4th in Pro Super Stock.
With three rounds now in the books, Malinoski has made a quick recovery from some bad luck at the season opener and is back in the points chase, leap-frogging several riders with his recent performances. The trip to the western side of the rockies proved valuable in many ways. Foremost, we were able to complete some high-altitude testing as we prepare for Winter X 15 in just three weeks. On Thursday, the team was able to spend a day with our partners KLIM USA at their corporate office and develoment center in Rigby, Idaho.
Friday morning it was up and at 'em at 5 am with three of Salt Lake City's most prominent news channels. We met on track with reporters and camera crews as they rode our display sleds during live feeds to promote the race and our sponsors. Up next is the AMSOIL World Championship Snocross in Eagle River, Wisconsin
Round 3 will air on Versus Sunday, January 23, 2011 - 2 p.m. CST
