ROCKSTAR MAKITA SUZUKI OPENS SEASON WITH BIG WIN

Supercross opened its season in the mud on Saturday at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.  And the new Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing Team walked away with a win as team rider Ryan Dungey took first place in the Lites class.  RMS Teammates Mike Alessi and David Vuillemin snagged impressive 6th and 10th place finishes in the Supercross class.

Dungey, 18 (pictured at right), finished strong last season and posted 4 wins.  On Saturday in the Lites class, Jason Lawrence of Team Yamaha took first place on lap four after a sixth-place start, but Dungey made an aggressive pass on lap seven over the triple jump and moved into the lead and held on for the win.

In the Supercross Class, Rockstar Makita Suzuki riders Mike Alessi and David Vuillemin finished sixth and tenth, respectively.  Team Yamaha rider Chad Reed of Florida pulled an upset win over defending champ James Stewart.  Stewart crashed on the first turn and started the race in last place, and rallied for a second place finish.

Next Saturday, racing resumes at Phoenix’s Chase Field. SPEED will broadcast the AMA Supercross Lites class race on Saturday, January 12 at 6:00 p.m.
