DUNGEY TAKES SECOND IN PREMIER CLASS ON HOME TURF

Rockstar Makita Suzuki team rider Ryan Dungey took second and teammate David Vuillemin took eighth in front of 40,982 at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

Dungey (top photo, second from left; and bottom photo) started fast and grabbed the holeshot, then hung on to take second behind Yamaha’s Josh Hill.

"I ripped out of the gate tonight and had a good lead,” said Dungey. “The crowd was behind me 100%, and I could hear them on every lap. This is only my third race in this class, so I\'m very happy."

Dungey’s strong finish was remarkable considering he just moved up to the Supercross class mid-way this season. Dungey competes in the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites class championship, and his performance at the Metrodome on Saturday was his best finish since moving into the premier class.

Teammate Vuillemin’s eighth place was yet another top ten finish this season, and he remains in eighth in the overall point standings.

In the Lites class, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Nico Izzi took ninth. Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto took first in his first Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites class race of the season.

Saturday\'s AMA Supercross class race will air on SPEED Sunday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. The AMA Supercross Lites class race will air on SPEED Saturday, March 22 at 6:00 p.m.

Racing takes the week off and returns on March 29 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, then to Texas Stadium in Irving on April 5.
