It was an event the fans and racers alike had been waiting for all year! The “Final Showdown” of The Off-Road Race Championship (TORC) Series took place October 23rd and 24th at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track, just a few miles north of the promising lights of the Vegas strip. When the final checkered flag dropped on Saturday night, it brought with it the end of an incredibly successful year for the Rockstar / Makita Team LeDuc Racing.
As the Pro 4x4 class took the green flag Friday night for the next to last race of the season, one thing was for certain - the competition was going to be fierce! Starting in the second position was Curt LeDuc in the No. 43 Rockstar / Makita Pro 4x4 Ford while Kyle LeDuc lined up a few rows back in the fifth position in the No. 99 Rockstar / Makita Pro 4x4 Ford. Working his way through the field, Kyle claimed the lead by the mandatory caution while father, Curt, maintained a firm grasp on his second place position. As the track returned to green for the final few laps, the Rockstar / Makita Team LeDuc Racing continued to dominate the Pro 4x4 field and claimed the top two podium positions. Holding off the competition, Kyle crossed the finish line with the victory while Curt followed closely behind with a second place podium!
Saturday’s Pro 4x4 racing was intense and full of mayhem as fifty percent of the field succumbed to mechanical issues, fires, or crashes. Looking to repeat Friday’s performance, Kyle made a hard charge from the sixth starting position to claim the lead but suffered a disappointing power steering failure and as a result, hit the K-Rail as he was heading into Turn three of the 11th lap. After receiving the black flag for an incident with Adrian Cenni, Curt LeDuc came from behind to successfully claim his second podium of the weekend by crossing the finish line in the third position!
When the final points were tallied for the Pro 4x4 class, Kyle LeDuc finished second overall in points and claimed four Oakley “Bomb Awards” throughout the season for the fastest lap times while Curt LeDuc finished fifth overall in points. Kyle had an impressive year in the competitive 4 wheel drive class – earning a total of 10 podiums which included four victories and the prestigious BorgWarner Cup title and Curt earned a total of 7 podiums.
With just a few points separating the first place contender from third, the most anxiously awaited race of the weekend was the Pro 2WD competition as it would be a three-way battle for the championship title. With two “Oakley Bomb” awards for fastest lap times and 9 podiums (including two victories) throughout the season, Todd LeDuc took to the dirt track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway third in points. With just 9 points separating Todd from the lead, it was anyone’s guess who would leave Vegas as the Pro 2WD Champion. Finishing in the fourth position during both rounds of competition, Todd emerged from the inaugural season of TORC Series racing third overall in points!
Coverage of The Off-Road Championship Series season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway can be seen on ABC on Sunday, November 8th at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time!
