DECEMBER 16, 2009 - La Mirada, CA Makita U.S.A., Inc., manufacturer of high quality industrial power tools and accessories, has renewed its partnership with Suzuki Factory Racing for a sixth straight season. Makita and Suzuki will be joined again by Rockstar Energy Drink. Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing will sponsor racing teams in AMA Supercross, AMA Motorcross, AMA Superbike, AMA ATV Motorcross, Off-road, and Amateur.
2010 marks the sixth year of partnership between Makita and Suzuki, including last season when Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing claimed six championships in Supercross, Motocross, Superbike, and ATV.
“It has been great to be involved with Makita, already six years now!” said Roger DeCoster, Suzuki Team Manager. “Makita is always working on improving the performance of their product, just like a top race team. That’s why our crews use Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion cordless tools in the garage and in the pits.”
“Our team raced hard all year in 2009, and the result was six championships,” said Brent Withey, Makita Senior Brand Manager. “These results speak to the talent and hard work of our athletes, and to the strength of our partnership. We look forward to more great racing in 2010.”
Rockstar Makita Suzuki will begin 2010 at the AMA Supercross season opener in Anaheim on January 8. The team is lead by Ryan Dungey, right, defending champion in Supercross and Motocross Lites. Dungey is coming off a big win on his Suzuki RMZ450 at last month’s Motocross de Nations in Italy, and will move up to the supercross class for 2010. Dungey will be joined by teammates Matt Moss and Austin Stroupe.
Makita’s Presence in Racing and Action Sports
During the six year partnership between Makita and Suzuki, their sponsored riders have collected a total of 25 championships in Supercross, Motocross, Superbike, ATV, Off-Road, and Amateur. In 2008 the two companies teamed up with Rockstar Energy Drink to form Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing, and the new partnership delivered impressive results. In 2009, Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing won six championships, including Ryan Dungey’s sweep of the Lites class in Supercross and Motocross. Makita is also a sponsor of Rockstar Makita LeDuc Racing in the TORC (The Off Road Championship) Series and Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. In every case, Makita power tools – including 18V LXT Lithium-Ion cordless drills, impacts, and grinders – can be found in the hands of race mechanics in the garage and in the pits.
In addition to racing, Makita is the Official Power Tool Sponsor of Major League Soccer (MLS), as well as the Mexican National Soccer Team (Federacion Mexicana de Fútbol, or FMF) during its tour of the US. FMF recently qualified for the World Cup 2010 and will compete in the opening match against South Africa.
