MAKITA'S LXT LITHIUM-ION BATTERY CHARGERS FIRST TO EARN ENERGY STAR LABEL

April 25, 2007La Mirada, Calif. – Makita U.S.A., Inc., manufacturer of high quality industrial power tools and accessories, is proud to announce that all three of its Lithium-Ion battery chargers are qualified Energy Star products. Makita’s Optimum charger (DC18SC), Rapid Optimum Charger (DC18RA), and 7.2 Lithium-Ion charger (DC075A) were the first in the power tool category to qualify for the list of Energy Star Qualified Battery Charging systems in 2006, per the strict energy-efficient guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE).

“On the occasion of Earth Day, we’re proud that we were the first power tool company to obtain an Energy Star approval for our battery power tool charging systems,” said Stan Rodrigues, Manager, Regulatory and Compliance Department. “Being able to display the Energy Star symbol for our chargers indicates that the Makita charging systems are ranked at the top of our competitors in energy efficiency.”

Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping consumers and busineses save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.   Energy Star recognizes a range of products for being energy efficient and environmentally friendly, including commercial food service equipment, home and building envelope products, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning products, home electronics, and appliances, including battery chargers for power tools.

According to Energy Star, more energy-efficient battery chargers have the potential to save Americans more than 1 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy per year, saving Americans more than $100 million annually while preventing the release of more than one million tons of greenhouse gas emissions — equivalent to the emissions of 150,000 cars.  On average, ENERGY STAR qualified battery chargers will use 35% less energy than conventional models.

Makita’s Energy Star-compliant battery chargers are part of the 18V LXT Series of cordless industrial quality power tools featuring Makita’s industry-leading 18V LXT Extreme Lithium-Ion Technology. One year after its debut, Makita’s LXT Series has grown from seven to 19 tools (nearly 40 total models), providing a wide range of cordless solutions for professional tradesmen.

Makita’s growing line of LXT cordless product features a wide range of industrial-quality power tools, including drills, impact drivers, saws, metalworking, concrete tools, and more. The Series also offers a jobsite radio, rechargeable flashlights, and five different combo kits.
