Reciprocating saws are workhorse tools called upon for a wide variety of tasks. Pro Tool Reviews recently tested 8 top cordless models, and ranked the Makita 18V X2 LXT Lithium-Ion (36V) Brushless Recipro Saw as best in their "Cordless Recipro Saw Shootout." 

Full Range of Job Site Testing
Pro Tool Reviews put all 8 models through a range of tests including metal and wood cutting, as well as blade speed and stroke length, vibration, ergonomics, and weight. The Makita XRJ06, powered by two 18V LXT batteries, received high marks across the board. 

Watt Hours: Best Indicator of Work Performed
PTR also calculated the "watt hours" for each saw, which is reached by multiplying a battery's voltage by the amp-hours. This is widely considered a best indicator of work performed by the tool. A car analogy a useful way to understand this important performance metric: 

• Voltage: The size of the gas tank
• Amp-hours: The amount of gas in the tank
• Watt Hours: The distance you can drive your car over the course of an hour -- or how fast you can cover the distance (in other words, the PERFORMANCE or end result).

The Makita XRJ06 Recipro Saw, powered by TWO 18V LXT batteries, topped the entire field with a full 216 watt hours: 

• 18 x 6.0 = 108 watt hours
• 18V X2 LXT Recipro Saw powered by TWO 18V LXT 6.0Ah batteries: 2 x 108 = 216 watt hours
